It is International Compost Awareness Week .

On Saturday 11th May at Homegrown Cafe Palmwoods, Sunshine Coast Shop 4/6 Little Main Street (THIS IS A FREE EVENT)

The Kookaburra Organics Team in conjuction with Homegrown cafe, Palmwoods will be showing, how you can utilise your house hold waste to make rich compost and soil for your garden or community.

The day starts at 9.30am How to construct and harvest a Worm Farm.

                        10.15am Building and harvesting Compost.

                        11.30am How to construct and harvest a Worm Farm

Homegrown Café is a sustainable & Organic Café which has been established for over 8 years, The owner Sarah Wright has been composting the café waste since the beginning. In August last year Kookaburra Organics has been conducting food growing workshops on site and establishing the Cafe’s food production garden. Utilizing  the compost and establishing a productive worm farm from Café waste.

Our event will be jointly hosted by Homegrown café and Kookaburra Organics Guest presenters Gary Hands, Paula West & Lise Hay from Kookaburra Organics www.kookaburraorganics.com will give demonstrations on building  Compost and establishing a productive worm farm using everyday household waste . Two demonstrations of each compost and worm farming will be presented on the day

Gary Hands is an Organic grower of fresh produce including survival & Heirloom plants. Kookaburra Farm is a Organic and sustainable, naturally farmed market garden on the Sunshine Coast,Qld.

Gary is well known for his knowledge in organic growing in both temperate & sub–tropical areas.  He is a regular speaker at Garden Clubs, Sustainability Expo's and Organic Food groups.  He regularly presents a range of vegetable growing workshops catering for beginners through to the very experienced gardener. Gary also privately consults on creating small scale Backyard Farms and market gardens for sustainable food crops, using aspects of permaculture design and holistic approach. https://www.facebook.com/kookaburraorganics

Bring you camera/phone,note taking materials, garden gloves, sunhat and water bottle. Morning tea will be provided.

Paula West is the Queen Bee/ Apiarist of Adopt a Beehive. www.adoptabeehive.com.au  Paula’s approach to beekeeping is totally holistic and natural and she will impart some vital “must know” info about bees, pollination and your veggie garden.   Her expertise and comments are regularly sought by media groups.

Several articles have been published about Adopt a Beehive in the Sunshine Coast Daily and the prestigious Salt magazine. Lise Hay is Kookaburra Organics Australia's  soil creater , worm farming, moon planting and loves to see a No Dig Garden built in next to no time. Her passion is reducing landfill by collecting organic “waste” from local cafes and feeding this to her ever-expanding worm farms and composting systems. She is creating an urban farm at her home in Burpengary. She grows food by the cycles of the moon and has achieved abundance using this ancient method of gardening. Lise has heaps of fun at workshops and takes great pleasure in being with food growers, both old and new.
